Amelia Grace Livy Ray was born to Patrick and Shelby Ray in the early hours of the morning of August 27th, 2026. Despite handling the labor beautifully throughout, she became distressed at the very end of her birth and the NICU team was unable to resuscitate her despite their best efforts. We rest in confidence that she is in the arms of our Savior, Jesus, surrounded by our loved ones who have entered His rest before us, particularly her beloved Mimi, Liv Grosser, who prayed fervently for her for many years and from whom she gets her middle name, Livy. While we had hoped to have many years with her here with us, we know she could be nowhere safer or happier than eternity with our Lord.
She is survived by her parents, Shelby and Patrick Ray, and the best big sister she could have ever asked for, Addie Ray, along with a whole host of extended family members who loved her so deeply.
Amelia was a long awaited daughter, after years of losses and infertility. Her mother often remarked that she was the most prayed for baby she’s ever known. What a joy it has been to know and love her as she grew in the womb, and to know that Amelia spent every moment of her precious life being loved, nourished, prayed over, and delighted in. She is a good and perfect gift from God.
In the weeks leading up to her arrival, Shelby wrote some thoughts on what it means to follow Jesus and delight in the answered prayer of God after nearly a decade of waiting. You may read that Here.
Amelia’s life was not the prize after years of waiting, and her death is not punishment from God. Her life is simply a good gift, drawing our hearts and minds to the Giver of Life, Jesus Christ our Lord.
He gives and He takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
A funeral service will be held to honor Amelia’s life on Thursday, September 3rd at 6:30pm at 1922 25th Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55411. Her body will be laid to rest at Crystal Lake Cemetery on Friday at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, we would ask people to donate to the Children's Ministry of Northside Neighborhood Church so that more children may come to rest in the arms of Jesus alongside our daughter.
