Anne Roberta Wilson Sandvig

Anne Roberta Wilson Sandvig had her husband Jerry and daughter Linda at her side as her spirit peacefully transitioned from this earth on 5/27/23, after a brief illness.  She was loved by many and will missed greatly.

Anne was born in Christiansburg Virginia to Robert and Hazel Wilson.  Anne attended Mary Washington College and graduated from the College of William and Mary.  She earned her graduate degree in Math at the University of Detroit.

She followed in her parents’ footsteps and became a teacher.  She started her career teaching homebound students and later taught 4th and 8th grades at St. Catherines School in Toledo, Ohio.  Then taught adult students in English-as-a-second language in Sylvania, Ohio and GED/computer skills at Chrysler Corporation in Warren, Michigan.

Anne married the love of her life, Jerome Sandvig on December 18, 1957 in La Paz, Bolivia where her father was stationed in the American Foreign Service. Anne and Jerry spent their early years together in Richmond, Virginia, and raised three children in Sylvania, Ohio where they were active members of Epworth United Methodist Church. Anne prioritized her family and lived with intention and values of inclusion and excellence.  Hallmarks of many happy gatherings hosted by Anne were gracious dining, lively conversation, and discussion of current events. She was a doer and helped her children and grandchildren succeed. Anne and Jerry lived in and loved Tucson, Arizona in their retirement years and enjoyed many special friends at SaddleBrooke community.

Anne is preceded by her parents, sister Jayne and daughter-in-law Mia Sandvig. She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Jerry, children Karen (Rod) Barron, Morris (Julie) Sandvig, and Linda (Steve) Sullivan, grandchildren Susan, Christopher, Noah, Matthew, and Olivia, great-grandchild Aidan and furry-friend Robbe.

She will be remembered most for her compassion, kindness, sharing her many talents and time, always leaving things better than she found them and her devotion to Jerry.  Her warm smile made you know you were loved and at home with her.

The family will have a small gathering this summer to spend time lovingly celebrating Anne.

Tributes to Anne may be made to the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The family thanks caregivers from Allina Hospice, Nurse Next Door and Broadwell Senior Living for their assistance.
