Listen to Obituary

Cary James Bergstrom, 60, died at his home in Corcoran, MN surrounded by the love of his family. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend; a steady presence whose humor, strength, and quiet generosity shaped the lives around him.

Born in Minneapolis to Wayne and Kathleen Bergstrom, Cary was the middle of three boys, alongside his brothers Jon and Paul. From an early age, he built lifelong friendships, a deep love of family, and a competitive spirit that stayed with him throughout his life.

He attended college at the University of Minnesota and graduated with a political science degree. Cary had an unparalleled work ethic, creating two successful businesses, first as a mortgage broker and then as a residential contractor, through sheer determination and grit.

Cary married the love of his life, Susan, in 1996. Together they raised their three children - Bridget, Jack, and Sean - in Maple Grove, creating a home filled with love, support, humor, and unwavering presence.

As a father, Cary was exceptional. He taught his children how to think critically, how to problem-solve, and how to move through life with resilience and integrity. He showed up - to every game, every practice, every moment that mattered. He could build or fix almost anything, from a backyard playhouse to cars that outlasted expectations, always finding ways to take care of the people he loved.

He lived an active and full life, pushing limits through marathons, triathlons, solo skydiving, and waterskiing. He loved time at the cabin, good food, movie theater popcorn, rock music, family game night and a cold beer. He found great joy in the simple things - family time, shared laughter, and being together.

Cary showed love through action. He helped neighbors without hesitation, volunteered his time and skills, served in his church, and offered guidance to anyone who needed it. He was not always loud, but he was always there and usually right.

He faced cancer with remarkable strength, humor, and grace, meeting it with the same steadiness that defined his life. Special thanks to Dr. Mehrotra and her team at the North Memorial Cancer Center who fought equally as hard as Cary did to give him any extra time with his family.

Cary is survived by his beloved wife, Susan; their children, Bridget, Jack, and Sean; his parents, Wayne and Kathleen; his brothers, Jon and Paul; his mother-in-law, Colleen Reiter; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends who will miss him deeply.

His legacy lives on in the way he loved, the lessons he taught, and the countless lives he touched.
