Cathi Subialka

Listen to Obituary

Cathi Sue (Rehor) Subialka passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on August 28. She was born on March 25, 1958. She grew up in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota and attended Robbinsdale High School, graduating in 1976.

Cathi spent her life caring for others. She started her career as a nursing assistant. Shortly after starting her family, she started up her own home daycare, to both be home with her own daughter and to share her love with the other children in her care. After twenty-five years of caring for children, she spent three years lovingly caring for her mother in her final years. For the last twelve years Cathi worked as an aide to the teachers in the lower school at Providence Academy, again helping to guide young children to reach for the stars. In those years she worked joyously and selflessly, often working outside her hours doing whatever was needed to support her school community.

Above all else, Cathi lived for her family. She spent nearly 43 years building a beautiful life with her husband, raising three daughters whom she adored and supported in all their endeavors, but especially through their shared love of dance. She lovingly embraced her three sons-in-law who gave her a chance to be a “boy mom” too. In her later years, her grandchildren kept her young and busy. Nana loved them with all her heart, giving them all the snuggles and smooches, and never missing the opportunity to be there at the drop of a hat and for every single thing. Her love extended to her brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and beyond. She never missed a family reunion or a daily Wordle post in her family chat. On Thanksgiving she could be found hand-delivering her homemade Dilly bread to everyone’s homes & at family meals she rarely sat down to eat - always serving others. Her favorite thing was family gatherings, floating in the sun & trips up north.

Cathi is preceded in death by her parents Lewis and Marian (Baumeister) Rehor. She is survived by her husband Tim Subialka; her three daughters Emily (Chad) Nowariak, Megan (Andrew) Heidemann, and Meredith (Sam) Day; her six grandchildren Gabriel and Gideon Nowariak and Everly, Nellie, Junie and Quincy Day; her two brothers Greg (Sue) Rehor and Mike (Gail) Rehor; and so many family members that she loved dearly.
