Cecelia Evelyn Houle died peacefully at home on March 22, 2026, at the age of 95.
Cecelia worked for many years at Minnesota Eye Consultants. Though she reduced her schedule over time, she always looked forward to her workdays and staying connected with her co-workers. Amazingly, she just recently retired in December 2025.
She deeply loved the home where she lived for 60 years. There, she found joy in simplicity-tending her yard, feeding the birds, squirrels, and rabbits, and relaxing on her patio. She valued her neighbors, and her home was often a welcoming gathering place for family.
Cecelia experienced profound loss in her life. Her husband, Morrie, passed away suddenly many years ago. She later lost her son Bruce to pancreatic cancer, and most recently her son Brian on December 28, 2025 to cholangiocarcinoma. In each of these moments, she gave the greatest gift of all-her presence by their side as they passed. She was also preceded in death by all eight of her siblings.
She began her faith journey at Ascension, where she attended as a child until 1965, when she, Morrie and their children moved to St. Austin's parish. Following the closing of St. Austin's, she joined St. Bridget's and added her voice to the church choir. She continued her connection to Ascension, frequently attending Saturday afternoon Mass there.
Cecelia embodied the best of her faith in her daily life-she did not judge, was kind to all, and was always quick to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.
Cecelia will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and her laughter-especially when sparked by her own jokes-brought joy to those around her.
She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her daughters, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as by her friends, neighbors, former co-workers, and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, April 11th, 10 AM at the Church of St. Bridget, 3811 Emerson Ave. No, Mpls. Luncheon to follow. Private interment Gethsemane Mausoleum.
