In Loving Memory of Daniel G. Osmek (April 10th, 1933 - June 22nd, 2023)

Daniel G. Osmek, of St. Louis Park Minnesota, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2023 at the age of 90. He was surrounded by his beloved family. Born April 10, 1933 at the Glencoe farm home, Daniel was the son of Hattie and George Osmek. For the past 60 years he resided in St. Louis Park MN and found solace, support, and spiritual fulfillment as an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

After serving in the Army he completed his education at the Minneapolis Business College, University of Minnesota. Daniel worked for 32 years as a Computer Analyst at the US Postal Data Center, utilizing cutting-edge computers to automate bulk mail deliveries and the employee payroll system. He retired at 56 years, and did not look back even when the US Postal Service asked him several times to return as a contracted Cobol programmer, a computer language that is still in use today. Dan stayed busy maintaining his home, their cabin and his parents’ home. He also volunteered as the Treasurer for the Ann Lake Association for more than two decades. In addition, he worked at Suburban Chevrolet for 20 years as an Auto Porter. Dan was also an AARP volunteer at Lenox Senior Community Center in St. Louis Park for several decades providing tax preparation services for the elderly...many of whom were younger than he was!  To top it off, he was also the legal guardian for three of his aunts and mother during their last years as well as a frequent visitor.

His hobbies included collecting coins & stamps, golfing, Sudoku, genealogy, gardening (until he retired and ran out of time for it) and reading the Silver Lake Leader and Glencoe Chronicle. His cabin in Zimmerman, Minnesota held a special place in his heart serving as a restful place for boating, fishing, & hunting creating ever-lasting memories with family and friends.

Dan's heart was captivated by his beloved wife, Vivian, with whom he shared over 65 years of marriage, unwavering support, and countless cherished moments. Rarely seen apart, their unbreakable bond stood as a testament to their profound love and companionship.

Dan led by example leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strong work ethic, and a genuine zest for life. His accommodating and gentle spirit brought peace and strength to his family & friends. He will always be remembered for his unwavering loyalty and willingness to lend a helping hand. While he was a quiet man, his sense of humor brought many unexpected laughs!

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Vivian, his five children, Marcene (Lewis), Steve (Darlene), Jim (Laura), Darrell (Kari), and Larry (Janice), 13 grandchildren and a sister Monica (Jerry) as well as a host of friends who deeply mourn his loss. While our hearts ache with grief, we find comfort knowing that Dan's life will guide and inspire us.

The visitation will be at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Home on Thursday June 29th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm and Mass of Christian burial on Friday June 30th at Holy Family Catholic Church in St. Louis Park, MN at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Dan's memory to Holy Family Catholic School https://www.hfamn.org/support-hfa or the Mcleod County Historical Society & Museum www.mcleodhistory.org.

Dan, you will be dearly missed, but your memory will forever remain etched in our hearts.
