Daniel F. Thompson, 50, of Plymouth, passed away unexpectedly on September 25, 2024.
Services honoring Dan's life will be held at the Gearty-Delmore Plymouth Chapel. Visitation will be on Monday, September 30 from 5-8pm, and Tuesday October 1 from 1-2pm, with the service at 2pm.
Dan was born on August 20, 1974 to Mary Jean Mulherin and Paul Thompson in Denver, CO. The family moved to Minnesota when Dan was two. He is a graduate of Johnson High School in St. Paul, and attended Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
Dan had a brilliant analytical and visionary mind, and was programming at the tender age of 7. It was the beginning of a lifelong love of learning and understanding how things work, which was the backbone of a career in IT.
In 1995, he married his high school sweetheart, Jacqui Hunter. The couple moved to Wisconsin for three years, where Dan unfortunately became a Packers fan. When it was time to plant roots, they moved home to Minnesota and bought their home in Plymouth. They were blessed with two children, Hunter and Alexander.
Dan was an avid cook and loved sharing food with family and friends. He was proud of his Italian and Irish heritage and worked to uncover many genealogical family mysteries. He enjoyed woodworking, making and consuming art, metal music, playing video games, and television. He was a fan of zombies, collecting classic video games, and a good story. He loved to tell Dad jokes and terrify his wife and children every time he sneezed.
Dan loved his family with his whole heart, especially his wife Jacqui. They loved to travel and spend as much time as possible with their families and friends. His kindness was authentic, and his generosity, with his time, his resources, and his knowledge, was utterly boundless.
Above all, Dan adored Hunter and Alexander and was honored to be their dad. He made it his business to be involved in whatever they were involved in. He coached soccer, built theatre sets, went to Scout camps, concerts and plays, school outings, and countless track and field meets, and soccer, baseball, basketball, football, and rugby games. Along the way, he lovingly documented everything with photography.
Dan is survived by his wife, Jacqui; children Hunter Thompson and Alexander Thompson, parents Mary Jean Mulherin and Paul Thompson, sister Rachel Thompson, brothers Jahan (Peg) Thompson, Andrew (Lynn) Thompson, Peter (Stacey) Bacigalupo, and John Paul Thompson; beloved in-laws James (Sherry) Hunter, Tom Hunter, Nicole (Eric) Hylen, Christine Hunter, and Jon (Holly) Hunter, and sixteen nieces and nephews, two grand nephews and four grand nieces.
He is preceded in death by his father-in-law Michael Hunter, niece Amanda Reid, and uncle Brian Mulhern.
The Thompson family would like to thank the Plymouth Police and Emergency Services for their services.
