Debra L. Herbeck

August 16, 1958 — September 19, 2024

Maple Grove

Debra L. Herbeck, age 66, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2024 surrounded by her family at her home in Maple Grove.

Deb graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm with a degree in education, followed by a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Deb was a teacher for 35 years, a career that she loved. Her passion to help people shone brightly. She began teaching elementary school at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Appleton, Wisconsin for seven years. After leaving St. Paul’s and moving to Minnesota, she continued her career in community education where she helped unemployed adults learn computer skills allowing them to rejoin the workforce. She liked to say that she never had a bad day on the job. Deb’s strong will to live came from her unwavering faith in God and she lived her Christian values daily. She was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Plymouth and regularly participated in bible study at the church and with her friends. Deb was a caring and loving mother who taught her children well. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for them. She had a passion for playing Mahjong. On fall Saturdays, Deb was attending Minnesota Gopher football games and in the tailgate lot mingling with many friends. In the winter, Florida would call, and along with her husband Dave they would head there to enjoy the warm weather and many friends. Her two grandchildren, Cameron and Taylor, were the light of her life.

We remember people for the quality of the person they were. How did they make you feel when you were around them? Deb had the ability to make people feel better. She had many friends as she was sincere, honest, fun and likable. She liked to live life to the fullest, by maximizing time with family and friends as well as traveling extensively. Deb got the most out of her time here on earth and improved the lives of those around her. She will be missed by all who loved her on earth. Now, she is wrapped in the loving arms of all family and friends that have gone before her.

Debra is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, David; children, Ashley Andres & Steve, Brittany Herbeck & Jeff Grivna; grandchildren, Cameron & Taylor Andres; parents, Lyman & Clairine Lewis; siblings, Sharon Lewis, James Lewis & Susan, Jane Clobes & John, Darrin Lewis & Heidi, Joel Lewis & Robin, Tamara Rassmusen & Neil; as well as many nieces & nephews.
