DeLores Johnson

Listen to Obituary

DeLores Jean Johnson was born August 25th, 1936 to Naomi Hurd & Leonard Peterson in Litchfield, MN. She was adopted by her loving grandparents, Jay & Louise Hurd.

She attended Lincoln Elementary School, while still in the 6th grade, she became a member of the Litchfield High School gymnastics (tumbling) team for 4 years, which was under the direction of her sister, Donna. Other members included Lois, Evon, Janice & Betty. They performed with a full high school band accompaniment at basketball games, during half-time. She was also a cheerleader for 4 years, at Litchfield High School and was Homecoming Queen in 1953, graduating in 1954. In 1953, while DeLores was in high school, she worked her very first job, becoming an usher at the Hollywood Theater in Litchfield, MN.

DeLores was always grateful and felt blessed to have devoted grandparents. Her grandmother was always teaching the Lord's word which was taught from her parents & grandparents. Louise & grandparents founded, with help of others, the Church of God in Eden Valley, MN - which is still in existence.

DeLores attended the Church of Christ where beloved mentors - Mrs. Burrington and her daughters, Edith & Vivian, were her biblical & faith mentors.

DeLores married in 1954 & was blessed with two loving sons, Scott & Craig. She spent a year in Germany where Scott was born. She returned to the U.S. in 1955 where her sons excelled in music & sports. They also attended college and obtained their pilots licenses.

DeLores returned to St. Mary's and received her R.N. Nursing Degree. She practiced her nursing in Arizona and returned back to Minnesota in 2005.

She attended St. Cloud University to obtain a degree in Social Services, later obtaining a Minnesota realtor's license. She did this while spending treasured time with her son, Craig, and his family, Lynette & daughter Brittney.

She also created her own consignment shop (De Chemise). While employed by Daytons, she did some modeling, Macy's, and decorated the interiors of homes built by her son, Scott.

After building a new townhouse in Arizona, she spent treasured time with son, Scott; wife, Leslie and granddaughters, Robin and Hailey. In 2005 she moved to Plymouth, MN where she made many loving friends and was closer to her granddaughters, Brittney & Hailey; and great-grandsons, Noah & John Jr.

She felt Gods favor by being blessed with a loving & caring bible study group, who later became some of her favorite friends, family, while feeling the nearness of the Lord - always present!
