Donald R. Hanson

Donald (“Don”) Robert Hanson passed away February 24, 2024 at the age of 72, at his assisted living residence in Golden Valley, MN. Diagnosed with bone cancer, he spent his final days in dignity surrounded by family, community friends, nurses, trusted aides, and his beloved dog Annie at his side.

Born on February 20, 1952 to Howard (“Mickey”) and Mary in Harvard, IL, Don moved to Minnesota, where he met and married his beloved wife Terri in 1988.  Together they raised a blended family of 3 children: Chris Petersen (Megan); Sarah Hanson (Jay Hilden), and Tyler Petersen. Before his retirement, Don had taken a turn coaching each of his children’s soccer teams.

Sadly, Don was predeceased by his parents, his wife, his brother Michael, and his sister Nancy Edson. He is survived by his children, his 3 grandchildren, Sophia, Owen, and Harrison, and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

A service to celebrate Don’s life will be held on Tuesday March 5, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Covenant Living of Golden Valley, located at 5800 St Croix Ave N, Golden Valley, MN 55422. A brief reception will follow, all are welcome.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to: Covenant Living of Golden Valley, North Memorial Hospice, Joyful Companions Home Care, and the dog walkers at Pup Culture, all of whom provided services and care that allowed Don to live with independence and dignity.

In lieu of flowers, Don’s children kindly request donations be made to North Memorial Hospice in his honor, to allow others to experience the peace and end of life care that Don received.
