Donna Carolyn Strande Taflin, age 78, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2023, after a short hospital stay.
Donna was born to Philip and Luella Strande and raised in Fosston, Minnesota. After graduating from high school, she moved to the Twin Cities where she worked in the insurance field for most of her life.
She treasured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, embracing every moment with them. She also had a special place in her heart for her grand puppies, especially having Hazel every day to keep her company.
She had a great summer with trips to Fosston for a graduation in May and in July for the Fosston All School Reunion. In June, while Carla was home for two weeks, she went to Duluth and we had our annual gathering in Breezy Point with her daughters, and siblings, Norma, Larry, and Marilyn. She was also looking forward to Don's annual trip home in August.
She had a vivacious personality and made friends everywhere she went. She loved to entertain, never missing an opportunity to make people laugh. She enjoyed outings to the casino, was an avid reader, and liked doing puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling to visit family but especially to Arizona soak up the sunshine. She was a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan who never missed a game.
Donna is survived by her children, Don (Sue) Taflin, Carla (Hon) Loi, Jody Rock, Wendy (Mike) Powers, Andrea (Randy) Oelschlager; grandchildren, Xavier Powers, Hunter and Sydney Oelschlager, Erika (Sean) Kinderknecht, great-granddaughter, Kase Kinderknecht; sister Norma Quam, brothers Larry (Marilyn) Strande, Scott (Teri) Strande; her nephews and nieces as well as her great nephews and nieces; all she loved and touched deeply. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Art Quam.
A celebration of Donna’s life will be held at St Philip the Deacon Church in Plymouth, Minnesota on Monday August 21st, 2023. Visitation at 1:00 pm, service at 2:00 pm with desserts and coffee to follow. She will be laid to rest at Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston, Minnesota at a later time.
In lieu of flowers we ask for memorials to be made to St. Philip the Deacon Church Foundation in Plymouth, Minnesota.
