Donna Zitur

Donna Scherer Zitur, 93, of Wayzata, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025.
Born during the Great Depression, Donna met every challenge with optimism, perseverance, and wit. She was the first in her family to graduate from college, and later honored as the College of St. Benedict's Alumna of the Year. A lifelong advocate, she fought book bans in the 60s and 70s, helped start breakfast programs in Robbinsdale schools, regularly served as an election judge, and volunteered widely.

Her gracious, gregarious spirit created enduring friendships everywhere-from childhood classmates to colleagues in teaching, retail, and real estate. Above all, Donna was a devoted mother and grandmother who led with love and example.

Donna was preceded in death by her infant daughter Julie Marie, her parents Clarence and Julia, husband Robert, brother Roger, sister-in-law Ruth Neron-Heipley, and niece/godchild Lisa Marie. She is survived by children Mary (Tim) Miley, Amy (Chuck Wolf), Joan (Ed) Carter, Tim (Lisa), and John (Kimberly); grandchildren Ellen, Matt (Jamie), Brandon, Zachary, Jorja, Karlyn, and Quentin; sister-in-law Irma Scherer; brother Gary (Carolyn) Scherer; sister Jean (Paul) Wagener; beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family. Special thanks to Dr. Rebecca Bartlett, Dr. Mark Menge, Methodist Hospital staff, Park Nicollet, Folkestone, and Lifespark.

Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM Friday, August 29, 2025 at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, 155 County Rd. 24, Medina. Visitation at church one hour prior. Interment Calvary Cemetery, St. Cloud. Memorials preferred to Donna Scherer Zitur Endowed Scholarship at the College of St. Benedict.
