Douglas M Johnson, 78, of Brooklyn Park passed away on January 17. He was born on January 12, 1948, in Austin, Minnesota. After high school graduation, he moved to the Twin Cities where he had a long career working at Safetran Systems. He retired in 2018.
He was preceded in death by parents, Arnold and Grace Johnson, father-in-law Jack Wetsch, brother Ron Johnson, sisters-in-law Myrna Johnson, Kay Johnson, Patti Johnson and Nancy Ruechel.
Doug is survived by wife Linda Spotts, step-daughters Sara Cape and Lisa (Alan) Shi, grandchildren Kaitlyn, Eliana, Claire, Kai and Remy, grand dog Atlas as well as brothers Gary Johnson and Dennis Johnson.
No matter what the occasion, Doug always had a few good jokes to tell! Doug’s greatest joy though, was being “Boppa” to his five grandchildren and watching them grow. He enjoyed watching the Vikings, boating and spending time at the cabin. The cabin was Doug’s happy place, a place where he found a lot of peace and joy, especially while he was walleye fishing, bird watching or sitting at a bonfire. When Linda caught a 31” walleye (bigger than any Doug had caught), she gave him her cellphone to take a picture with her holding the fish, before returning the fish to the lake. However, when they had a chance to look at the photo later, the only photo was of Linda’s feet!
Memorial service 11:00 am, Saturday, January 24th at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel, 15800 37th Ave. N. Plymouth, with visitation one hour prior. Luncheon immediately following memorial service. Interment at Holy Name Cemetery in Medina to follow luncheon. Memorial contributions will go toward stocking walleye in Lake Miltona for others to enjoy for years to come.
If you’re looking for him, you’ll find him chasing a big walleye in the sky!
