Markon, Dr. Clyde Edward
Age 74 of New Hope, MN, born November 7, 1950 in Superior, WI, passed away on July, 15th, 2025 surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Illie (Abrahamson) Markon of South Range, WI, and Sandra Markon, sister-in-law. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley (Kraft) Markon. Brothers, Carl Markon and Steve (Julie) Markon; three children, Kristian (Catalina Hooper) Markon, Aimee Markon-Peter, and Noah (Michelle DuPuis) Markon; ten grandchildren, Helena, Chloe (Matthew Hrbacek), Serena, Sebastien, Ella, Magdalene, Lincoln, Abraham, Edith, and Florence; close cousin, Karen Halverson, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin Superior, he went on to complete a Physician’s Associate degree from the University of Oklahoma. As a Physician Associate, he worked in rural Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Clyde and Shirley parented three unique and wonderful children who became the primary focus in his life. Clyde graduated from Emory University Medical School in 1987. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine with a specialty in Nephrology at Hennepin County Medical Center and worked within the metropolitan area as a Nephrologist. In 2004, he joined the VA Health Care System as a Medical Director for clinics in Northeastern Wisconsin and North Central Minnesota. He most recently practiced at Northwest Metro VA Clinic in Ramsey, MN prior to retiring from the VA Healthcare system.
Throughout his medical career, Clyde also served in the Army Reserve. During this time, he was a part of healthcare missions in various countries as well as serving in Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom. He retired as a Colonel from the United States Army in February of 2011. He received Army Commendation and multiple medals and awards.
Clyde was dedicated to his medical career, and many people have commented on his compassionate patient care. He was guided by a Christian philosophy, which was reflected in his strong values. In his personal life, he found joy in a variety of outdoor activities: camping, canoeing, fishing, scuba diving, and skiing. He was an avid photographer and loved sharing for all to enjoy. He passed his values along with his love to his children and grandchildren who lovingly called him PapaDoc. He thoroughly enjoyed being around family and friends. His impactful presence and genuine care for people will be dearly missed.
The funeral service will be held at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Crystal, MN on Monday, July 28th, 2025. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. and the funeral at 11 a.m. Interment of his ashes will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Kidney Foundation or contributions made to the charity of your choice in honor of Clyde.
