Edwin Richard “Dick” Clifford passed away on July 19, 2026 in Robbinsdale, MN. A sociable, ambitious man with a servant’s heart, he taught his family to “work hard, play hard” and improved many lives during his 82 years on Earth.
Dick was born on Dec. 30, 1943, to Phyllis and Edwin Clifford in Northfield, MN. He grew up in southern Minnesota, where at the K&M Drive-In, he met the love of his life, Melanie. Soon after marrying, the two moved to Maple Grove, MN to raise their growing family.
Dick was a man of many talents who worked as a machinist, businessman, and farmer. He appreciated a spotless surface and could often be found tending to his home and lawn. Ever curious and bold, he was also an early adopter of Microsoft Excel, a licensed pilot, an avid outdoorsman, and a man of faith.
Above all, Dick was a widely beloved man. He maintained an impressive calendar of coffee get-togethers with fellow early birds, card games with granddaughters, and rounds of golf with old friends. He sought adventure wherever possible, hiking mountains in Arizona with his children and four-wheeling through the Black Hills with Melanie. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family.
Dick was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother, Bill; and his son, Ron. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Melanie; his children, David (Lisa) Clifford and Keely (Rich) Johnson; his brother, Jerry; and 7 granddaughters and 3 great-grandsons.
