Harriet Agnes Schroeder (Manthey),
age 96, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.
Born on November 1, 1928 (All Saints Day), in Minneapolis, Harriet was the daughter of Eric “Harry” and Anne Manthey. She grew up in Minneapolis alongside her siblings Margaret, Phyllis, and Anthony “Harry,” all of whom preceded her in death.
On June 24, 1950, Harriet married the love of her life, Kenneth Schroeder. Together they built a lively and loving home, raising five children: Colleen (Lon), David (Elaine), Daniel (Jana), Claudia (Gabriel “Chip”), and Cathy. Harriet was a devoted wife and mother, later balancing family life with a career in real estate in the Twin Cities area.
Harriet’s greatest joy was her family. She was the proud grandmother of 16 grandchildren (one deceased) and 33 great-grandchildren (with more on the way!), each of whom brought her immeasurable happiness. Her home was always open, and at times bustling with a dozen or more family members under one roof in earlier years. Harriet welcomed everyone with warmth, patience, and her ever-present smile.
A devout Catholic, Harriet lived her faith daily through service, compassion, and praying the Rosary. She volunteered with Loaves and Fishes, Sharing and Caring Hands, led a grief support group, and found countless other ways to extend kindness to those in need.
Harriet had many passions. She loved writing poetry and stories, thrifting, reading, playing cards—especially teaching her favorite game, “Manipulation.” She and Ken treasured their years at their lake home near Aitkin, where family and friends gathered to make lasting memories. She was known for her positivity, strength, and generosity, as well as her ability to make everyone feel included and loved.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ken, her parents, her siblings, her son-in-law, Lon, and her grandson, Nick. She is survived by her five children, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless relatives and friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.
Harriet’s own words leave a legacy of her kindness and faith: “Please bless every face I’ve ever seen, every voice I’ve ever heard, every hand I’ve ever held. I ask this in Your Name, and forgive me of my sins. Amen.”
