James E. McCabe

James E. McCabe, 79, of Bloomington, passed away Monday, February 28, 2022.  "For now I'm free".

He loved Joan, The Wind Beneath His Wings, their first trip Lake Louise, Canada, Alaskan Cruise, mining for gold, Orchestral Hall, being at home, reading, books, collecting books, collector of things, extremely organized, crossword puzzles, birthdays, great card giver, sharing a lunch or dinner out, ice cream anytime, warm chocolate chip cookies, sharp dresser, watching old movies, The Old Log Theatre, volunteering at “Book Em”, fishing, camping, photography, maps, pictures, canoeing, outdoors, nature, birds, owls, unique and fun sense of humor, quick wit, the art of dishwashing, the organizer of all organizers, ULLR ski club, ski racing,  teaching blind people to downhill ski, sailing, skipper license, took his kids white water rafting on the Snake River, horse back riding in the Grand Tetons & going to the top of Pikes Peak, BWCAW.

Jim was preceded in death by parents, John and Dorothy McCabe.

He is survived by wife, Joan McCabe; son, John (Cynthia) McCabe; daughters, Donna (Scott) Kooiman and Diane (Rick) Gavin; sisters, Marilyn (Gary) White and Pam McCabe (special friend Ron Schibilla); step-children, Craig (Nancy) Burke, Brian (Colleen) Burke, Patrick (Julie) Burke, Jami (Tony) Wittke and Laura Chestnut; grandchildren, Levi Burke, Shea Burke, Rylee Burke, Noah Wittke, Nicole Wittke and Sarah Burke.

Private family service has been held.  Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or to donor's choice.
