James G. Mundt

James “Jim” Mundt, 88, of Maple Grove, MN passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2022 with family at his side. Jim was preceded in death by wife Marion (nee Hebeisen); his parents Otto and Elsie, and brother Donald. Jim will be dearly missed by daughters Linda (Daniel) Gustafson of Maple Grove, MN; Sue (Joe) Bucci of Raleigh, NC; and Nancy (John) Pelant of St. Michael, MN; his grandchildren, Melissa (Daniel Wilson and daughters Abby and Emily) Bucci of Wilmington, NC; Katie (Tim) Verastegui of Plymouth, MN; Emily (Logan) Meier of Raleigh, NC; Sarah Gustafson of Plymouth, MN; Nathan Pelant of Minneapolis, MN and Claire Pelant of St. Michael, MN; great-grandchildren, Banks, Ava, Theo and Lily; sister Joan (Al) Sunderman of Le Sueur, MN; as well as many extended family members, friends and neighbors.

Jim was raised in Le Sueur, MN, and as a young man enjoyed fishing, hunting, his lawn mowing business and playing football at Le Sueur High School. He met the love of his life Marion from neighboring Green Isle, and together they embarked on a wonderful life. They spent two years stationed in Naples, Italy, where Jim proudly served in the Seabees division of the US Navy. Jim studied at the University of Minnesota to prepare for a job in sales, becoming a lifelong Golden Gophers fan. During his career, Jim was employed by General Mills, Oken’s, Harrison House, Monarch and US Food Service. He was humble and handy, and greatly valued developing strong relationships with customers, so much so that many became lifelong friends of Jim and Marion’s. More importantly, Jim was a caring dad to his three daughters, teaching them to appreciate the outdoors, fishing, and instilled in them steadiness, a sense of humor and resilience. Jim and Marion valued faith in Christ and invested in their family. Together they especially enjoyed golfing, traveling to Hawaii, Topsail Island, NC, and throughout the US, 25 years at their cabin on Sullivan Lake, spending time with their six grandchildren, and serving in their churches. As a grandpa, Jim enjoyed reading to his grandkids, flying kites, taking them mini golfing, and fishing. Jim and Marion never missed a concert, baseball, basketball or football game, dance recital, Christmas program, play performance or cross country race. Jim also valued time with good friends whether they were golfing, playing pool, fishing, hunting or just visiting on the phone. (Marion enjoyed the space she had when he was out of the house!). Even at 88, Jim had a sharp memory and an endearing sense of humor. He had a genuine love, caring and interest in others, which made him a favorite to his assisted living and hospice caregivers, and everyone else whose life he touched.

A memorial service to honor Jim will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Word of Peace Lutheran Church, 21705 129th Ave. N., Rogers, MN, 55374, with visitation from 3:30-5 p.m., and memorial service at 5 p.m. followed by supper.
