James "Jim" W. McGie, age 96 of New Hope, formerly St. Louis Park passed away peacefully on June 12th, 2023.
Preceded in death by daughter Kate, first wife Peggy, parents Claude and Rhea, sister Mary, brother Frank. Survived by son Dan (Melanie) McGie & daughter Beth (Mike) Robertson; grandchildren, Katie, Ryan, Erin, Tommy, Colin, & Bridget. Also survived by his second wife Christa along with Christa's daughters Iris (Tony), Stefanie (Wayne) and son Michael (Tammy) and her grandchildren Tanner, Wyatt, and Adrianna.
Jim was a proud graduate of Mpls Southwest High School in February 1944 where he was a 3 sport letter winner in Football, Basketball, and Track. He then attended the University of Minnesota studying Accounting and playing Football for the Gophers. Once turning 18, he entered the Navy for 16 months until WW II ended serving as a radio operator aboard cruisers. Once honorably discharged, Jim attended MN School of Business obtaining his Accounting credentials that initially brought him to the Great Northern Railroad and eventually starting his own Accounting & Income Tax Business; Jim McGie & Associates, that he successfully ran for over 40 years. He met Peggy through the Young Christian Workers and were married for 47 years raising their family in St. Louis Park until Peggy's death in 2012. Jim was active in Most Holy Trinity Parish and Benilde-St. Margaret's High School. He loved coaching sports, playing tennis into his late 80's, many friends from MHT and BSM, and being an "active" spectator at his grandkid's games. Later in life, after moving to St Therese of New Hope, he married Christa in January 2017 where they enjoyed each other's companionship along with many activities.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 20 at the Church of St. Mary of the Lake, 105 N. Forestview Lane, Plymouth. Visitation Monday 5-8 PM at Gearty-Delmore Park Chapel, 3960 Wooddale Ave S., St. Louis Park. Int. Ft. Snelling.
Memorials preferred to Benilde-St. Margaret's High School or St Therese of New Hope in Jim's name.
