Our dearly loved Jean Marie (Coleman) Halverson passed away on August 25, 2026, at the age of 77, surrounded by her family.
Jean was born in Rochester, MN on October 8, 1948, to Evelyn and Donald Coleman. As the second of five children, she naturally took on a leadership role from an early age, with a confident spirit and a knack for taking charge.
Jean graduated from Pacelli High School in Austin, MN in 1966 and went on to earn her nursing degree from the University of Minnesota in 1970. She later obtained two master's degrees from Loyola University Chicago and the University of Notre Dame. She devoted more than 40 years as a registered nurse, serving in roles spanning patient care, administration, and education. Throughout her career, she demonstrated exceptional care, compassion, and dedication to her profession while helping shape the next generation of healthcare professionals.
After retirement, Jean embraced her favorite role yet: chief cheerleader and Uber driver for her beloved grandchildren, Evie and Elliot. She never missed a game, recital, concert, or special event. She took immense pride in supporting her daughters and grandchildren in all they pursued. Jean was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, cherishing every opportunity to spend time with those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Donald Coleman; brothers, Bruce and Brian Coleman; father- and mother-in-law James and Hildegard (Billie) Halverson; brothers- and sisters-in-law Bob Halverson, Gene & Kay Halverson, A.B. Johnson, and Bud Wirth.
Jean is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 57 years, Wes; daughters, Michelle (Brent) Wilhelm and Kelly Halverson; grandchildren, Evie and Elliot Wilhelm; sisters, Carol (John) Whortenbury and Marcia (Lee) Warnke; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Marlene Wirth, Jackie Halverson, Bonnie (Ken) Freimark, Judy Johnson, Ray Halverson (Mary Vork), Rollie (Becky) Halverson, Doug Halverson, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Jean will always be remembered for her loving heart, unwavering devotion to family and friends, and for always having a tube of lipstick close at hand for anyone in need, even on the golf course. Though her family feels her loss deeply and far too soon, her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A funeral mass celebrating Jean's life will be held Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus in Medina, MN. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Sharing and Caring Hands in Minneapolis.
