Jean Vernetta Johnson (Lawson), 79, of Plymouth, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home, following a heroic battle with ovarian cancer, on July 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on September 27, 1946, in Ellendale, Minnesota, Jean lived a life centered on faith, family, and compassion. She was known for her kind heart, quiet strength, quick wit, and the way she made everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Whether sharing stories, offering a listening ear, or greeting someone with a warm smile, Jean had a special gift for making people feel at home.
She found joy in life’s simple moments—playing cards with friends, spending time with family, and embracing the everyday routines that brought her comfort. Her kitchen was often the heart of the home, where she was known for her famous Special K bars and the stories shared around the table. She also loved playing bingo, Aggravation, and just about any card game with her grandkids.
Above all, Jean cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud Nana, and a treasured great-grandmother who delighted in family gatherings, celebrating milestones, and creating lasting memories. Her love, wisdom, and steadfast support will remain with those who knew and loved her.
If there were two words that perfectly captured Jean, they were, “I’m fine.” Even on the hardest days, those were often the words she would say. They reflected her quiet resilience, selflessness, and unwavering desire to put others before herself. To those who loved her, those simple words will forever be a reminder of her remarkable strength.
Jean is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Dale; her son, Todd (Tracy); her daughters, Jodi and Amy (Andy); her cherished grandchildren, Ty, Henry, Emma, Kennedy, Jake, Keegan, and Taylor; her treasured great-grandchildren, Emmett and Mackenzie; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Henrietta Lawson and her older brother Kenneth Lawson.
Memorial Service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 23rd, at Oak Knoll Lutheran Church, 600 Hopkins Crossroad, Minnetonka 55305. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. In honor of the light and joy she brought to so many, the family invites those attending her service to wear a touch of bright color as we celebrate the beautiful life of a woman who made the world a little warmer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that acts of kindness be performed in her memory.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who offered love, support, and prayers during this difficult time.
And if you were to ask her how she’s doing now, we know exactly what she’d say…
“I’m fine.”
