The angels of the northern lights escorted Jerome Joseph Scherber home on November 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 5, 1932, during a blizzard at the family farm in Rogers Minnesota, Jerome was the first born son of Gilbert and Susan Scherber. He attended Fletcher Schoolhouse and graduated from the University of Minnesota Agricultural School in 1951. Jerome served in the Air Force during the Korean war, stationed at Laon Air Base in France with the 38th Maintenance Squadron.
He met Arlene Johnson at a local dance hall, and after marrying on September 20, 1958, they raised six children together in Minneapolis. Jerome worked for Control Data Corporation for over 30 years before retiring.
Jerome cherished time with his family, enjoyed fishing at their trailer in Garrison, and took pride tying the quilts Arlene crafted. He kept up with current events, loved shooting the breeze with everyone, dancing, and card games. Known for his helpfulness, Jerome was often found in the kitchens at home or at St. Austin’s doing the dishes or lending a helping hand. Providing for his family was his lifelong motivation, evident in his purchasing recreational dwellings for his family to get together or enjoy their hobbies.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert & Susan; brothers, Donald, Arthur, Richard (Mary) Scherber, sister-in-law Betty Scherber, and his beloved wife, Arlene, of 67 years.
He is survived by his children, David, Kevin (Lynette), Ronald (Heather Helton), Suzanne (Mark LaLond), Barbara (Daniel Marquardsen), and Melissa (Steven Jordan); 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other beloved family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 7180 Hemlock LN N, Maple Grove, on Monday November 17, 2025, at 12 pm, with 2-hour visitation prior. The service will be streamed live at: www.sjtw.net.
Jerome & Arlene will be laid to rest together on Wednesday November 19, at 12 pm at Round Lake Cemetery, 16652 Goshawk St, McGregor, MN.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Jerome’s memory by supporting the Alzheimer’s Association or a non-profit close to your heart.
