Listen to Obituary

JoAnn Barbara Lowrie, 82, of Minnetonka, passed away peacefully March 15, 2026 at Shalom Home West, after a courageous 14-year battle with terminal metastatic breast cancer.

She was born August 31, 1943 in Olympia Washington to Harold and Kathryn Toy. JoAnn was extremely proud of her Swedish heritage and to be the granddaughter of an immigrant. She enjoyed family history, genealogy, interior design, “twinkle lights” (in her mind, appropriate anywhere!) and volunteering at the Swedish Institute of Minnesota.

JoAnn was preceded in death by both of her parents along with siblings Richard Toy and Cynthia Pearson. JoAnn is survived by daughter, Noelle (Brian Hallock) Lowrie; sister Susan (Michael) Doering; sister-in-law Barbara Toy; niece Kristen (Brian) Applegate; nephew James Doering; niece Michelle (Eric) Przybilla; great-nephew Ethan Doering; great-niece Emma Applegate; great-nephew Erik Applegate; especially welcomed great-niece Ember; lifelong friend Janelle (Thomas) Stang; and other treasured cousins and extended-family members in both the United States and Sweden.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 13 at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Home of Saint Louis Park, MN. Visitation will begin at 12 p.m., with the service beginning at 1 p.m.

In-lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Swedish Institute of Minnesota in JoAnn Lowrie’s memory.
