Listen to Obituary

Jorgen Edwin Dahl, 84, Plymouth, MN, Golden Valley, MN, Burlington, ND, and Michigan, ND, passed away on April 29th at his home surrounded by his family, after a brave battle with Parkinson’s disease. Jorgen had the most wonderful smile and laugh. He was kind and charming, and everybody could talk to him.

Jorgen was born on November 24, 1941, in Lakota, ND, to Jorgen Dahl Sr. and Marie Kubesh. He graduated from Michigan High School. After high school, he enlisted and was proud to serve his country in the Army, and was a decorated soldier. He met Mary Cowger Dahl, and they were married for over 60+ years and had four children.

He is survived by four children, Terri, Maple Grove, MN, Todd (Christine), Eden Prairie, MN; Jared (Karen), Burnsville, MN; and Jason (Stacey), Eden Prairie, MN; eleven grandchildren; his sisters Marion (Morris) and Marilyn (Doug), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Cowger Dahl; his mother, Marie Kubesh Dahl; his father, Jorgen Dahl Sr.; and his brother, Arlin.

Jorgen’s career was spent managing grain elevators throughout Montana and North Dakota. Having grown up on a farm, Jorgen loved this work and was extremely talented at it. When Jorgen and Mary retired, they moved to Minneapolis to be near their children and spend time with family.

For hobbies: Jorgen enjoyed fishing at the lake with family, hunting, and trips to the shooting range. A self-made mechanic, he loved tinkering. He always had the best lawn in town. Jorgen was a lifelong sports fan, a die-hard Vikings, UND hockey, and loved to see his kids and grandkids play. He loved watching Cheers, The Waltons, and Little House on the Prairie, and longed for simpler times when we all played Monopoly and danced to Wipeout.

Jorgen was a lifelong supporter of Veterans and their causes. Memorials can be made to the Disabled American Veterans Foundation or  The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

A private family burial for Jorgen and Mary, together, at Fort Snelling will occur this Spring.
