Karleen Fischer Hagan, age 88, of Naples, FL passed away on Tuesday July 22, 2025.
The daughter of Karl (Buck) and Monica Fischer, Karleen was born October 24, 1936 in Moravia, Iowa. She grew up on a farm just outside Centerville, IA, graduated Centerville HS and attended the University of Iowa.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jody Svitak (David) and Jamie Hagan; grandchildren Matthew (Courtney), Courtney (Dustin) and Jennifer (Roger); and great- grandchildren Makena, Hudson, Sierra, Harlan and Alexander. Preceded in death are her husband John David Hagan 2016, sister Beverly Soshea 2025, grandson John Thomas Petters 2004, and son John David Hagan 1960.
Her roots ran deep in southern Iowa - a descendant of some of the areas first pioneer settlers in the late 1840s. Some of her favorite stories of childhood were of learning to drive a tractor at 9, riding her horse to a one-room schoolhouse, and cattle drives on their ranch/farm. Karleen met John David Hagan, the love of her life, in high school. They married in January of 1958, enjoyed 58 years of marriage and were blessed with three children. John’s career growth led the family from Iowa to South Dakota, Nebraska and Minnesota with dear friends made at each new outpost. Karleen became a master bridge player and bowler, always finding the “fun bunch” wherever she traveled. Their favorite joint activity was cruising the beautiful waters of Lake Minnetonka with a boat full of friends and family on their big wooden boats. A highlight of their lives in the year 2000 was a monthlong trip around the world via Concorde, stopping in numerous countries on six continents. The cultures, cuisine and excursions checked off a bucket list of exciting adventure. The strong memories of her infamous laugh will be remembered around the world, and especially missed by our family.
Memorials may be made to AVOW Hospice of Naples, FL.
A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, August 11 at 10:30AM at Basilica of St Mary’s chapel in Minneapolis, MN (visitation 10AM), followed by interment at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis.
