Kathleen Gaffaney Strunc, age 77, of Maple Grove, MN died on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at home surrounded by family.
Visitation and prayer service will be on Monday, November 17 from 5 to 8 PM at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, November 18 at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior. Interment is in St. Patrick Cemetery, Maple Grove.
Kathy was born in Alexandria, MN on June 5, 1948, the second of six children born to Ambrose and Florence (Van Amber) Gaffaney. She grew up on a dairy farm twelve miles southeast of Alexandria in Douglas County, Hudson Township. After graduating from Villard Public School, Kathy attended the College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph, MN. After leaving college, she worked in Minneapolis where she met Gary Strunc from Moorhead, MN. They married at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Villard, MN on May 30, 1970. They spent six months at Fort Huachuca, AZ, where Gary was stationed on active duty with the Army Reserves, and then returned to the Minneapolis area where they have made their home ever since, living in Maple Grove since 1975.
Kathy’s calling in life was to be at home full-time while raising their four children to be the productive members of society they are today. She once read a saying that staying home to raise children causes a woman to lose $1 Million in income over a lifetime. She wrote on it, “You guys are worth a million!” She was so very proud of each of them. Kathy was involved with volunteer activities at her children’s schools as well as at church. She enjoyed genealogy and writing family history stories.
Kathy was preceded in death by stillborn son Michael, in 1975, her parents, and step-mother Frances Herzog.
Kathy is survived by Gary and their children: Nathan (Kari) of San Antonio, FL, Chris (Teysha) of Bakersfield, CA, Melissa of New Brighton, MN, and Nick of Renton, WA; grandsons: Connor (Danielle), Tyler (Joanna), Riley, and Andrew Strunc; great-grandchildren Macie, Lacie, and Royce; brothers and sisters: George, David, Greg, Lyn McMurry, and Marybeth Jubert and their families.
Memorials may be made to: St. Joseph the Worker Helping Hands Fund, Jeremiah Project, Home Free Women’s Shelter, or to donor’s choice.
