Listen to Obituary

“Larry” C. Jordan of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota passed away calm, peaceful and adorable on August 25, 2025 at the age of 82. Larry was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and business man.

Larry was born December 6, 1942 . He grew up on the farms of Hamel & Corcoran the oldest of eleven and influenced by his beloved grandfathers, Larry learned the value of love for family and friends, hardwork, and faith. These pillars, mixed with his tough as nails and playful spirit, would be the guiding force throughout his life.

As a young man, Larry spent time at Wayzata High School and St. John’s Prep. Following in his families footsteps, he became an avid wrestler and athlete. At 17 he joined the army, stationed in Germany as a nuclear warhead specialist. Upon his return to Minnesota he became a pipe-fitter with the Local 539 Union and in 1967, while at an infamous “kegger”, Larry met the love of his life, Renee. They married a year later and began their family.

Larry went on to be an astute businessman, purchasing Axel Newman Heating and Plumbing with his two partners, Ron Pearson and Jerry Poser, in 1979. Renamed to NewMech Companies the business grew to be one of the largest mechanical contractors in the Twin Cities during the eighties and nineties. Larry also sat on many boards including the MMCA, SMARCA, St. Paul Local Union 455 JATC Apprenticeship Board, Selective Service Board, and the Health & Welfare and Pension Boards. He was a devoted supporter of Totino Grace High School, St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, and St John’s Prep.

Larry’s greatest love was family. He enjoyed making memories at their cabin in Balsam Lake, WI and home in Bonita Springs, FL. Most days you could find him coaching his kids sporting teams or cheering on the grandkids. There weren’t many events he missed. With his playful sense of humor and sparkling Irish eyes he left a legacy of love.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Renee (Schmidt), son Peter and Katie (Kurn), Paul and Amy (Bizal) Jordan, daughter Kristina and Paul Nelson, his beloved grandchildren Isabelle, Mathew, Frankie, Emily, and Luke Jordan, Caroline Greta, and Lars Nelson. Siblings Mary (Barney) Marquette, Linda (Wayne) Fleck, Judy (Rance) Baker, Tom Jordan, Jerry (Pam) Jordan, Dick (Karen) Jordan, Craig Jordan and Ken (Melissa) Jordan and brother in-law Jeff Melin. And many cherished Schmidt Family in-laws.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents Laurence Jordan, Marguerite Jordan, in-laws Hugh and Edith (Spurzem) Schmidt, brother Fritz and wife Peggy (Arens) Jordan and Sister Peggi (Jordan) Melin and niece Tammy Geist.
