Lois K. Hollerud, age 87, of Plymouth, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, at Trillium Woods in Plymouth.
Lois was born on February 16, 1939, in Lyle, Minnesota, to Jay P. Mortensen and Selma C. Mortensen (Lastine). She grew up in Lyle and, following her graduation, attended Mankato State University, where she earned her associate’s degree. On June 24, 1961, Lois married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Hollerud, in Lyle, Minnesota. Lois devoted her time to raising their two children and creating a warm and loving home for her family.
Together they began their life in Postville, Iowa, where Dick worked as a teacher and coach. In 1962, they welcomed their daughter, Malia. The family moved to Osage, Iowa, in 1963, where their son, Todd, was born in 1966. In 1974, they relocated to New Hampton, Iowa, when Dick began his career in real estate. In 1985, Lois and Dick moved to Plymouth, Minnesota, where Dick continued his real estate career and later managed the Minnetonka office for Coldwell Banker/Burnett.
Lois was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid reader, loved to travel, and especially cherished time spent with family and friends. Her wisdom, kindness, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; her son, Todd Hollerud; her parents, Jay and Selma Mortensen; and her siblings, James Mortensen, Shirley Nelson, and Marie Mortensen.
She is survived by her daughter, Malia Haskins (Kurt Gonyea) of Plymouth, Minnesota; her grandson, Sam Haskins of St. Paul, Minnesota; step-grandchildren Alec Gonyea (Libby Osterbauer) of Madison, Wisconsin, and Lauren Gonyea (Ian Carthey) of Cary, North Carolina; great step-granddaughter Scarlett of Cary, North Carolina; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 13, at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapels in Plymouth, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a memory sharing service at 6:00 p.m., followed by refreshments.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice in Lois’s memory.
