Mark Joseph Davy

Davy, Mark J. age 78 of Edina, passed away Feb. 26.

Survived by beloved wife of 53 years, Joan, who he met freshman year in college; daughter, Maureen Tesch (Daren); son, Michael (Whitney); grandchildren: Anna, Christian, Claire and Elowyn; brother Joseph (Colleen), 3 nephews. Preceded in death by daughter Anne, mother Margaret, father Joseph, sister Mary, brother Michael.

Graduated from Most Holy Trinity Grade School, Benilde High School, Mankato State College. Served in the US Army Security Agency.

Mark worked as a fundraiser/fundraising consultant for 40+ years. He was Development Director for Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School; University of Minnesota School of Nursing, College of Pharmacy and School of Public Health; Executive Director of the Champion’s Fund and Assistant Athletic Director; 14 years as Executive Director of the University M Club.

He founded a fundraising consulting firm, Mark Davy & Associates, and worked with schools, churches and health organizations. Mark was instrumental in securing a $10 million gift for the University and in naming of the McNamara Alumni Center. He was named an honorary letter winner at the University and AFP Executive Fundraiser of the Year, 2010. The St. Paul Pioneer Press called Mark a king and a wizard of fundraising.

His volunteer work included: Minnesota State University, Mankato Foundation Board Member, MSU Board of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences; Member of the University of Minnesota President’s Club. He was a long-time coach and official for football, basketball and baseball. Mark was a member of the American Legion for many years.

He had a great love for his children and grandchildren. Mark enjoyed spending time with his family and telling stories of being 100 percent Irish. He also enjoyed lunching with friends and asking people for financial gifts to change and save lives.

Memorials preferred to Anne E. Davy Oncology Nursing Education Endowment at Children’s Minnesota or Davy Family Endowment at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial, Church of St Patrick, Edina (6820 St. Patrick’s Lane), on Tuesday, March 8 at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
