Mason Robert Anderson passed away during a 100-mile charity bike ride on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the age of 29.
Mason was born on September 26th, 1995 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota to Michael Anderson and Beth Rohlik. He grew up in Plymouth, Minnesota alongside his twin brother, Max, and his sisters Emily and Sophie.
From a young age, Mason was curious, adventurous, and caring. He spent his childhood exploring the neighborhood woods with his brother and friends and taking trips to the Boundary Waters and shores of Lake Superior, where his love for the outdoors grew. Mason’s adventurous spirit continued into adulthood with his love of running, cycling, and finding a good spot to hammock.
When he wasn’t playing outside with his siblings, Mason could be found with his nose buried in a book. His curiosity and eagerness to learn were apparent in the many hours he spent reading a wide variety of novels, and in his academic excellence at Wayzata High School, where he notably received a perfect score on the ACT (and only occasionally traded classes with Max). Mason’s caring nature and genuine passion for being present to others led to the formation of many long-lasting friendships as he navigated high school.
After his high school graduation in 2014, Mason attended the University of Notre Dame where he studied Mechanical Engineering. For much of his time there, he worked at the LaFortune Student Center, where he met many acquaintances and lifelong friends. He made everybody feel special, approaching others with intentionality, remembering the name of each person he met and recalling details about their lives in later conversation. During his Junior Year, he co-owned Knott Hall Grilled Cheese. He was extremely popular with the customers, and he always let his friends hang out in the kitchen with him.
Most importantly, his time at Notre Dame brought him the love of his life, Rebecca, his partner of nine years. Mason delighted in his time spent with Rebecca. He was known to sit in the art department to spend time with her and watch her paint. Following their graduation in 2018, they entered a period of career-related long distance, logging many miles to spend precious weekend days with one another. Their persistence paid off when they both settled in the Detroit area, where Mason would propose. The subsequent move to Chicago in 2023 set the stage for a legendary wedding shared with close friends and family. Inviting their friends to a bachelor and bachelorette weekend, the couple astonished their guests by getting married instead.
Mason touched the life of every person he met, especially those who had the privilege of knowing him as a most devoted husband, brother, son, uncle and friend. His quick wit, authenticity, and wisdom will be deeply missed by all.
In addition to his wife, Rebecca Huber, Mason is survived by his mother, Beth Rohlik (Brian); father, Michael Anderson (Kris); twin brother, Maxwell Anderson (Courtney); sisters, Emily
Anderson (Riley) and Sophie Anderson (Cooper); grandparents, Bob Rohlik and Monte and Evie Anderson; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Judy and Scott Huber; sisters-in-law, Rachel Huber and Sarah Nachtegall (Jim); nieces, Anna and Avila Nachtegall; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Mason was preceded in death by his grandmother, Janet Rohlik.
A visitation will be held in remembrance of Mason on Sunday, October 5 from 2pm to 5pm at the Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel, 15800 37th Ave N, Plymouth, MN 55446.
An additional time of visitation will take place on Monday, October 6 at 12pm at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 630 Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata, MN 55391. A funeral Mass will follow at St. Bartholomew at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers and other gifts, memorial donations can be made to Friends of the Boundary Waters (https://www.friends-bwca.org/donate/), a conservation effort that Mason loved.
