Medard Kaisershot

Kaisershot, Medard B., age 91 of New Hope, passed away May 3, 2025. Survived by wife, Rosemary; sons, Daniel (Lisa) and Christopher (Nicole); grandchildren, Deven, Nathaniel, Zachary, and Heather; sister, Grace (Wayne) Weiske; and brother, Edward. Preceded in death by son, David; parents, Edward and Margaret; sisters, Bernice Kuntz and Norma Beltowski; and brothers, Gordon and Gary.

Medard and Rosemary would have been married for 60 years on June 26, though they began dating five years earlier. They established a home and family in New Hope in 1965. The neighborhood was in its infancy. Advocating for municipal growth, Medard convinced the city to install water and sewage.

Born in Dickinson, ND, Medard attended the University of North Dakota, becoming a life-long UND hockey fan. He then moved to Minnesota and obtained his Juris Doctorate from William-Mitchell College of Law, where he invented his own short-hand to take class notes. Medard was licensed as an attorney in Minnesota for over 50 years. He was a solo practitioner in Crystal for most of his legal career, specializing in wills, trusts, and probate. Prior to practicing law, he held professional positions at the Credit Bureau and Donaldson's.

A devout Catholic and long-time member of The Church of the Sacred Heart, Medard served the church in numerous capacities, including lector and Eucharistic Minister. Medard also sang bass in the church choir for many years. His favorite was the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah. Adamant about getting the family to Sunday mass, he was pulled over for speeding one Sunday morning. Ever the negotiator, he convinced the officer to follow him the last few blocks so he could get his family to church on time. A ticket was issued in the parking lot.

Known for his bowties, strong integrity, and keen intellect, Medard was also highly active in his civic community, including decades-long memberships in Toastmasters, Rotary International, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a skilled and respected Parliamentarian and served in that role for many local organizations and associations.

Medard proudly "hit for the cycle" as a Twins fan by throwing out the first pitch in one game and singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" in two others. Issued a skipper's license out of Bayfield Marina, he sailed the Apostle Islands with a social group self-titled the Fun Fleet every summer for over 25 years. He was also skilled at making fudge and fermenting chokecherry wine. In the garage, Medard could even adjust the timing on the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagon!

A proud sports dad and grandfather, Medard could be seen running the sidelines at soccer games and in the stands at hockey games. He found immense joy taking grandkids to the Tall Ships sailing fleet in Duluth, to see Thomas the Train and other historic train exhibits, and to the open-house flying days at Crystal Airport, getting a chance to fly in small aircraft.

The family is eternally grateful to all Medard's caregivers over the years. Parkinson's/Lewy Body Dementia could not break his spirit, as he remained "marvelous" and "wonderful" to the end.
