Merle Delores Herbert

Listen to Obituary

Merle D. Herbert (Nelson), of New Hope, age 91.  Our loving mother and grandmother went to Heaven on September 7, where she joined her devoted husband Daniel.  She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Nelson and sister-in-law Mary.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter Linda Burns (Jon Lellelid), her grandson Michael Burns and his father Robert, her daughter Colleen, her son John (Julianne) and granddaughters Fiona and Gillian, plus many, many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Merle was born and raised on the Northside of Minneapolis, was a parishioner at the Church of the Ascension and longtime employee of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, having only retired less than a year ago.

Merle lived a long and fulfilling life as a loving partner to husband Danny and a caring mother and grandmother.  She and Danny made a wonderful couple and they were most happy when together with their family.

Merle was also delighted when she was the chef-in-chief to those she loved and cared most about.  Be it a dinner for 50 at the park or a breakfast for her two granddaughters, Merle loved to treat everyone to a full meal and a joyous time.

Merle also loved following Minnesota sports teams, to read historical fiction, watch documentaries and she especially loved watching “old” movies with her family.  She lived at home until August and received tender care those last weeks in the worthy hands at Our Lady of Peace Hospice.

Not only do we already miss Merle, but also miss her irreverent sense of humor as well.  Please join us for a Memorial Mass on October 13 at 10:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior at the Church of the Ascension, 1723 Bryant Ave N, Minneapolis.

Memorials to Our Lady of Peace Hospice, 2076 St Anthony Ave, St Paul, MN 55104 in lieu of flowers are preferred.
