Michael Calder, 81, of Brooklyn Center, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026. He was born to Harold and Dorothy Calder on May 1, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mike graduated from De La Salle High School in Minneapolis before attending St. John's University, where he proudly played football on the 1963 National Championship team. Following college, he began his career as a computer programmer at Control Data. Mike then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served time in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. When he returned home, he resumed his career in computer programming at North American Life and Casualty. Most recently, Mike spent more than 25 years in customer service at Home Depot. Mike loved spending time at the cabin, tinkering with projects, fishing, and building a fire, no matter the time of day. He spent many hours watching sports, often offering his opinion on what teams needed to do better. He cherished spending time with his wife and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, kindness, and generosity.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Judy and Patty Jo
Michael is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice; his son Jason(Sandy); grandchildren, Brianna(Justin), Kyle, Kayla; great-grandchildren, Paisley, Keaton, and Josie; brothers Bill and Jim; sister Cathy(Jan)
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 AM Tuesday May 26 th, at Church of the Ascension, 1723 Bryant Avenue North, Minneapolis, with visitation beginning at 10 AM
