Michael Scott Lohman

Listen to Obituary

Michael Lohman passed away on May 17th, 2026. He died peacefully at home after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by sisters Linda Larson, Janice Lohman; niece Michelle (James C Archer) Larson; nephew Brian (Kimi Johnson) Larson; grandnieces and grandnephew, Lyla, Lucy, and James X Archer. He is also survived by found-family members Daniel Warford (like a brother) and Victor Stoesz (like a son).

Michael grew up in New Hope. He graduated from Armstrong High School in 1977 and then from Suburban Hennepin Vocational Technical Institute for commercial photography. He worked as a photographer and in photo processing. He had a long tenure as a certified trap/skeet instructor and was Assistant Manager at the Minneapolis Gun Club.

Michael learned sportsmanship and integrity from his parents, Wayne and Alvira Lohman, and was a member of the Minnesota Skeet Shooting Association for over 50 years. He served as the Association's Chief Referee for many years. Michael won 11 state gun championship titles and was on the All-State First Team 7 times. In 2014, he was inducted into the Minnesota Skeet Shooting Association Hall of Fame, joining previously inducted father and sister Janice.

His most long-running and extensive creative project was his one of his HO scale slot car tracks, a competitive four-lane road course, which spanned a majority of his basement and boasted more than 1600 miniature people as well as a wide variety of buildings, to resemble not just a racetrack, but the premier racing location, Lohman International Raceway, located in the fictional territory of Shangri-La, Minnesota. The grounds were a luxurious 8.4 acres in scale and featured a beautiful lake, verdant wildlife, a trap-and-skeet field, and expansive campgrounds for multi-day race weekend tailgates. The weather reportedly was always perfect for racing, and tickets were always free to the public.

Michael was a member of RPM Model club. He built model cars, figures and dioramas. He held weekly slot car races with friends, flew remote control airplanes, played pool with friends and shared his favorite movies, TV shows, and YouTube videos. He adored cats and had many as pets throughout his lifetime. With friendly words and a smile for everyone, Michael will be remembered by his friends as someone both kind and generous and as someone who put the comfort of those around him first.
