We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Mike Lufholm, 36, on September 14, 2024, during the Northshore Inline Marathon-one of the many activities he loved.
Mike was born on December 1st, 1987, in Duluth, MN. He graduated from Hermantown High School in 2006 and attended Mesabi Range Community College where he studied and graduated with a certificate in Graphic Design and Print Communication. He had years of experience working in the art industry but most recently he worked as a Production Associate at the Art Partners Group in Minneapolis.
Mike was an incredible person whose generous spirit touched everyone around him. His passion for life was evident in everything he did, and his hobbies beautifully intertwined. He had an intense enthusiasm for rollerblading and for years, he poured his time into organizing skate competitions, sessions, and events all around Minnesota. During the pandemic, Mike also explored long distance skating and skated from the Canadian border to Duluth in just a couple days.
Mike was also a talented photographer, capturing moments that brought joy to many, and he would do anything to get the perfect shot. He had a way of connecting people through his photography and his photos will continue to tell the stories of Mike's adventures in life. He also loved collecting Lake Superior agates. It was another way for him to share his curiosity about the world with others.
Mike was an amazing husband, son, brother, friend and a devoted new father. He was always ready to give support to everyone in his life and to those he had just met. As a husband, Mike brought immense love and laughter into his and Erin's home. His love for Erin was enduring through all of life's adventures and they were most looking forward to their next chapter as parents.
As a son and brother, Mike valued his family and they could always count on him to have his camera to capture the moments at family parties and gatherings. As a friend, he was always there with a listening ear and a helping hand, ready to lift others up in times of need.
Recently stepping into fatherhood, those around him noticed a glow and excitement they had never seen in Mike before. Mike said, "I can say with certainty that I've never been more excited about anything in my entire life". He was so proud to be a dad and with that, Mike had never been happier.
Mike will be greatly missed but cherished in our memories. Each of us carries a special story of how he impacted our lives and made a difference.
Mike is survived by his wife Erin and daughter Olivia; Parents, Jim and Patti Lufholm; Siblings, Daniel Bodell, & Rachel Malooly (Cory); Grandmother: Dolly Lufholm; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his Grandparents: Charlie Lufholm and Bill and Dawn Martin.
A private funeral service will be held for his family and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
