Nicholas C. Prokop, age 28, passed away on March 21, 2022.
Nick was the third child and son born to Jim and Dayna Prokop. He was a sweet baby and a very loving and compassionate child. When his sister came along 6 years later he treated her with kindness and gentleness. Around age 3 or 4 he met his lifelong friend, Joe Masek. We thought the Masek's would send us a bill for room and board as he was so frequently at their house. Through his teen years he made many friends at the Church of St Paul and from there he fell in love with mission work, going multiple times to different places of need. During those years Nick began writing music lyrics, playing guitar, piano and the mandolin and singing. His love for music led to the typical garage band, which thankfully practiced at the Masek's! He even went on to build his own bass guitar!
Nick was definitely a man of many talents, he had a head for mechanics and would often be found in the garage with parts of an electric scooter or other item spread out on the floor. He did most of his own car maintenance and even helped out his parents on their vehicles. His big project was taking on an old pickup that he fixed and painted on his own. He looked rather handsome in his black tux for prom leaning against his cool black truck! He could sew, cook, crochet, knit, and do woodworking. Fishing, camping, playing games, making games were just some of the activities he enjoyed to the fullest.
2010 was a big change for Nick as he suffered a cardiac arrest playing in a basketball game. His heart condition eventually led to him needing a heart transplant which happened in October 2012. He was such a trooper through all of this, bearing so much pain and the loss of things most young men take for granted like heading off to college or getting a job. Eventually he entered nursing school and became an RN. This career path was perfect for him, not so much the nurse part but the fact that he met the girl of his dreams, Rachel!
Nick and Rachel originally met in nursing school but were friends. This friendship grew into a love that many do not get to experience in their life. Their relationship was always lighthearted and easy going. They loved to hike, travel, spend every waking minute together, and laugh. They appreciated doing volunteer work, donating time at catholic charities and Feed my starving children. They loved and supported each other unconditionally even though they had such a short time together.
Nick is preceded in death by five beautiful babies in heaven, Grandparents Norman and Gladys Carey of Boyceville, WI., and Charles Prokop of Hugo, MN.
He is survived by his wife Rachel (Coons), Parents Jim and Dayna (Carey) Prokop, Shoreview, MN, Siblings: Dan (Dahiana), Matt (Adrienne), Stephanie, Niece: Penelope (Dan`s), Nephews: Logan and Liam (Dan`s), Grandmother, Maxine Prokop, many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, Godparents Tom Prokop and Julie Hankins (Prokop), cats Whiskers and Gracie.
