Patricia S. Peterson

Peterson, Patricia Sommerville

Age 75 of Eden Prairie, formerly a longtime resident of St. Anthony Village, passed away on November 27, 2024 after a courageous year-long battle with lymphoma. Preceded in death by her loving parents Douglas and Almehda Sommerville and brother Michael Sommerville. Survived by husband of 48 years Michael Peterson, children Meg (Stan) Miroshnik, Douglas (Jenelle) Peterson, Marta (Derek) Jopp, seven grandchildren: Lev, Max, and Jacob Miroshnik, Aiden and Amelia Peterson, and Dylan and Everett Jopp, siblings Robert Sommerville, Anne Stemp (Ralph), John Sommerville (Joann), Jean Kellogg (Edward) and Nancy Cates, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Pat graduated salutatorian from St. Anthony H.S in 1967, from U of MN in 1971 with a BA in Speech Language Pathology, and from Washington University in St. Louis in 1973 with a Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology.

After a brief teaching sojourn in Florida, Pat returned to Minnesota where she met Mike through his friendship with her sister and brother-in-law Anne and Ralph Stemp. They were married on December 11, 1976 at St. Charles Borromeo Church. While raising their three children, Pat took a hiatus from her speech pathology career and was active in volunteer work and community service. She taught nursery school at Faith Methodist, ran the Junior Great Books program at Wilshire Park Elementary, and founded and staffed the College and Career Center at St. Anthony HS. With her children off at college, Pat returned to work in North St. Paul School District, relishing the challenge of working with speech students at the middle school level. Pat retired from teaching in the fall of 2012. In retirement, Pat loved to read, sew, take on DIY projects, visit with family and friends, and travel. Throughout her life, she was a dedicated, charitable, loving, hardworking, and an extremely intelligent and practical person. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. She definitely rests with God!
