Beloved Phyllis Marian Brill, age 91, of Winsted, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on April 14, 2026 at The Gardens of Winsted memory care community. We are thankful for her St. Croix hospice team and her daily cares team at The Gardens. She was born on July 19, 1934 in St. John’s Newfoundland, the cherished daughter of Andrew and Mary (Sinnott) McDonald. She loved to cruise, play cribbage, hit the casino and shop! She was a competitive tennis player, had the heart of an interior designer, was stylish and fun-loving. Her spark lit up a room and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was kind, loving and generous. She was practical and wise, always knowing what to do or say in any situation. She was a cherished and faithful friend and was always there when you needed her. She was born and raised Catholic, attending St. Brides College Littledale. She was a woman it strong faith. We are grateful for Holy Trinity visits. Her career culminated in being the Payroll Tax Manager for the City and County of San Francisco and July 11, 2000 was appointed Phyllis Brill day by the Mayor.
Preceded in death by husbands Robert Brill and father of her children Norman Buettner (Robyn), parents Andrew and Mary Sinnott McDonald and brothers Jim McDonald and Vince McDonald. She is survived by daughters Susan Buettner Albrecht (Michael) and Cindy Buettner Bergem (Rick); Grandchildren, Misty Buettner, Kristy Buettner, Seaira Buettner, Shawnna Buettner Castillo and William von der Hoff; great granddaughters Isella, Marianna and Alessi Castillo and Lilly Buettner; her brother Derek McDonald (Joan); nephews Keith McDonad (Linda) and Des McDonald (Vicki) and nieces Heather McDonald, Christina McDonald and Linda McDonald Meadus (Jamie); sister-in law Georgianne Brill Beagley Cook, niece Denise Beagley and nephews Kevin Beagley and Tim Beagley; and cherished lifelong friends Fred and Bonnie Wyneken.
Respecting Phyllis’ wishes, there will be no funeral service. There will be a private graveside service for immediate family.
“We will hold you in our hearts, until we can hold you again in heaven".
