Rebecca "Becky" Carroll

Rebecca (Becky) Ann Carroll, age 68.

On December 4, we lost a dearly loved wife, mother, sister and friend.

Becky was born, thirteen minutes after her twin Bobbi, on October 7, 1952. Mother did not know she was pregnant with twins until she was in delivery. After Bobbi arrived, the doctor made the surprising announcement, “Wait, there’s one more!” How delighted her two older sisters were with the new babies---live dolls to dress up and play with! But ten year old brother Bill received the news less graciously; he cried, having so hoped for a brother.

Becky grew up in Crystal, Minnesota on the shores of Twin Lake, swimming all summer and skating all winter. She graduated from Robbinsdale’s Cooper High School in 1970, and went to work at Northwestern Bell as a directory assistance operator. After she and Steve married August 12, 1972, and the children began to arrive, she embraced homemaking and motherhood and together they raised Sean, Katie, Sam and Anne.

Once the children were grown, she began working as an assistant manager at Northwest Fabrics which fueled her interest in sewing and crafts. She later coordinated North Memorial Hospital’s program, “Dinner at Your Door” for 15 years. After working briefly at Anderberg Lund Printing, she cut back to parttime work, selling some of her vast fabric collection on E-Bay. In later years she worked at Target and Walmart.

About this time, the grandchildren started to arrive. They were blessed with six, and being a grandma brought her great joy.

Becky had an appreciation for things of yesteryear, and was an avid collector of vintage fabric, feed sacks, quilts and other textiles. She and husband Steve made multiple summer road trips throughout the Midwest hunting for feed sacks as well as any antiques that caught her eye---she was especially fond of colored glassware.

She loved creating and surrounding herself with beautiful things. Decorating her house was a labor of love. She delighted family and friends with her many sewing projects and seasonal crafts. In the summer months Becky loved being in the garden, coaxing plants to flower, especially her favorite peonies. Always under foot were her beloved kitties, most recently Jack and Stash. And never far away were her favorite treats: Dairy Queen Buster Bars, and dark chocolate.

Becky and Steve shared a life full of love. They honeymooned in West Hampton on Long Island. They traveled to Mackinac Island to celebrate their 25th anniversary, and to Ireland and Scotland to celebrate their fortieth. This past year, they were blessed to celebrate 48 years together.

Becky had a sensitive, sweet nature, thoughtful and generous, which endeared her to her family and friends. Words cannot express how much she will be missed.

Becky is preceded in death by her parents Bob and Jean Sicora, and her brothers Bill and Paul. She is survived by husband Steve; her children Sean (Karrie) Carroll, Katie Carroll (Jarisa Johnson), Sam Carroll, and Anne Rusinyak (Joe); grandchildren Jade, Kane, Caden, Paisley, Sully, Aliyah and Jasper; great-grandchildren Maliyah, Beau, and Jade, Jr; sisters Bobbi Mankowski, Martha Radatz (Bill) and Susan Wall; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

There will be a private family memorial service on Monday, December 14. Due to the Coronavirus it will be streamed on line at 2:00pm and available for view for 90 days on the gearty-delmore.com website.  Private burial will be at Fort Snelling.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mercy Hospital Heart and Vascular Center.
