Reverend Eugene William Tiffany

Retired priest of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Gene was given back to the Lord on April 27, 2023 at the age of 77.  He was born on January 11,1946 and celebrated his 50th anniversary as a priest in 2022. Gene was raised by parents of humble means but magnificent character and they would be proud of the legacy that he built. As a priestly Father, he gave to all the full measure of his heart and faith. When work and more profound matters had been satisfied, he regularly delighted those around him with his tenderness, playfulness and humor. Even if it were the difficult and uncomfortable path, he was willing to hold anyone accountable if he saw that it was rightful.  He had a rare depth of character, perception, soul and strength.  In the final 13 years of his life, despite enduring the struggles of the cognitive ramifications of a stroke and dementia, his foremost concerns were not for himself but to work towards the welfare of others and setting things right.  He was a noble servant of God and a lion of a man.

Gene has been reunited with his mother and father, Margaret and William Tiffany.  He will be greatly missed by his siblings: Estelle Gunkel, Bruce Tiffany, Craig (Lori) Tiffany, Gail (Rick) Swanson, Kevin Tiffany, and Colleen (Todd) Sarenpa; 10 nieces/nephews: Michael (Maureen) Tiffany, Caryn Gunkel, Jill (Jim) Russell, Kristin (Paul) Johnson, Matthew (Denise) Tiffany, Ryan (Shannon) Tiffany, Adam (Dani) Tiffany, Paul (Jocelle) Sarenpa, Katelyn (Josh) Santos, and Elizabeth Tiffany; 7 Great nieces/nephews: Keith, Blake, Julian, Carter, Melina, Kova and Evan.  Countless other family and friends will miss him as well. To the many “angels” who cared for Gene over the past several years, you are greatly appreciated.

Before his retirement, Father Tiffany was parochial administrator of St. Boniface in Minneapolis for a year. He also served at All Saints in Minneapolis in 2012, Immaculate Conception in Columbia Heights from 2011 to 2012 and the chancery from 2008 to 2010. His ministry also included: Holy Spirit in St. Paul (2006-2009), St. Andrew and St. Mark in St. Paul (2009), St. Olaf and Risen Christ Catholic School, both in Minneapolis (2004-2006), All Saints in Lakeville (1992-2004), Holy Trinity in South St. Paul (1985-1992), St. Henry in Monticello (1981-1985), Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield (1980-1981), Immaculate Heart of Mary in St. Paul (1980-1981), St. Peter in Richfield (1977-1980), Sacred Heart in Robbinsdale (1976-1977), Nativity of Our Lord in St. Paul (1973-1976) and St. Matthew in St. Paul (1972-1973).
