age 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Plymouth, MN on October 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Chuck was born on March 3, 1948, in Kadoka, South Dakota. Early in life, he proved his independence, resilience, and grit. At 17 years old, Chuck enlisted in the United States Army, honorably serving his country on the battlefields of the Vietnam War.
Upon returning home, Chuck channeled his work ethic into a successful career in construction management. He began as a general contractor and then worked alongside engineers and architects on large commercial projects. Chuck was a master builder, but more than that, he was a man who could fix absolutely anything. Fiercely self-reliant, he rarely visited friends or family without bringing his tool belt. Loved ones often had a "to-do list" ready for him-a running joke that Chuck always embraced gladly.
For 40 years, Chuck and Patty shared a life rooted in devotion, strength, and family. Chuck's legacy lives on through his three children, Dawn Patton, Ryan Miller, and Robbyn Engelhardt (Jeff); his five grandchildren (Ashlee, Andrew, Evan, Emme and Edie); his two great-grandchildren (Gavin and Gage); and his sister, Cheri. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
Chuck will be remembered for his quiet strength, unyielding independence, and determination in the face of every challenge. He was a veteran, a craftsman, and, above all, a deeply devoted husband, father, and grandfather who built a beautiful foundation for the family he loved.
A celebration of Chuck's life will be held at St. Joseph the Worker on Tuesday, October 13th. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. and a luncheon immediately afterward. Burial, with military honors, will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD on Friday, October 16th at 12:30 p.m.. Please meet at Kincade Funeral Chapel, 1235 Junction Avenue, Sturgis at 12 noon to process to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Chuck asked that a tree be planted in his memory to help restore the environment.
