Theilmann, Richard
Richard Donald Theilmann, born October 7, 1948, passed away on October 28 at age 77 after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis. The longtime Wayzata resident was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who inspired many with his perseverance, positivity, and generosity. He lived life to the fullest, finding joy in sports, social gatherings, pheasant hunting, and the conversations he'd strike up with people everywhere he went.
Born in Owatonna - and an enthusiastic booster of the town ever since - Dick attended St. Cloud State University, which he proudly called the "Harvard of the West." At St. Cloud State, he majored in finance and economics, co-founded a chapter of the business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi, and pursued various entrepreneurial endeavors ranging from concerts to student travel groups.
Dick knew he wanted to be a stockbroker from the age of 12, and was driven to make a career out of his lifelong passion. Despite a recession and a very rigorous selection process, he was hired by Ross Perot of DuPont Glore Forgan - acquired later by PaineWebber and then UBS Financial Services - and built a successful 47-year career as a financial advisor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Dorothy Theilmann. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Martha; children Michelle (John) Hoedeman and Michael (Katie) Theilmann; six grandchildren; his sister, Diane; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 630 Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata, MN, 55391 on Friday, November 7 at 10 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will be held at Wayzata Country Club on Friday, November 7 at 4 p.m. Those wishing to honor Dick's memory may make a donation to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church or the Herberger Business School at St. Cloud State University.
