Robert ‘Bob’ Blake, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away at home on October 31, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Born on July 10, 1937, in Minneapolis, MN, Robert's life was a testament to love, service, and devotion.
Robert was the cherished son of Richard and Marie Blake, who predeceased him, along with his brothers, Richard and Rodger, and his great-granddaughter Gabriella. He is survived by his devoted wife, Maureen, with whom he shared 66 remarkable years of marriage. Their union, celebrated on April 30, 1960, in Robbinsdale, was blessed with the joy of three children: John (Linda) Blake, Tim Blake, and David (Gail) Blake. Robert's legacy continues through his grandchildren Jennifer (Brandon) Dorn, Nicole (Angelo) Tweed, Lauren (Trevor) Schmidt, Carl Blake, and Andron Blake, along with three great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy. His dear sister, Kathy Kerber, also survives him, and her presence throughout his life was a source of warmth and support.
A dedicated member of the community, Robert served his country in the U.S. Navy for two years before committing 20 years to the Minneapolis Fire Department, where he exemplified bravery and compassion. His career as a firefighter was marked by dedication to the safety and well-being of his community, a value he also carried into his personal life.
Robert was an active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church for over 53 years. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his roles as a Knight in the Knights of Columbus and as the only man in the Befriender Group. His volunteer work and dedication to the church community were reflections of his generous spirit.
Known for his gentle heart, patience, and humor, Robert was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid reader and fishing enthusiast, he was also a skilled handyman who was always ready to lend a helping hand. Above all, Robert adored his grandchildren, who remember him as a loving and playful presence in their lives.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital hospice team for their compassionate care, especially Christine, his dedicated nurse, whose kindness brought comfort to Robert and his family during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Robert's memory to Good Shepherd Catholic Church, honoring his lifelong commitment to his faith and community. Robert's life was a beacon of love and kindness, and his memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
