Robert 'Bob' James Ingram

Listen to Obituary

passed away on September 10, 2025, at the age of 87, after a courageous battle with interstitial lung disease. He died at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Melfort, Saskatchewan on May 1, 1938, Bob grew up on the Ingram family farm near Quill Lake. He began his education at Twin Creek School, a one-room schoolhouse where his mother was his teacher for a time. He completed high school at Campion College in Regina and worked summers in a northern Saskatchewan mine while attending the University of Saskatchewan, where he earned a degree in math and physics in 1962.

After university, Bob moved to Manitoba and began his career at Great West Life in Winnipeg. It was there he met Lucille Lafleche at a family wedding. They married in April 1964 and eventually settled in Minneapolis in 1966, where Bob pursued a long and distinguished career in actuarial science.

He became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1974, working at IDS and later becoming partner and chief actuary at Touche-Ross (later Deloitte-Touche). He retired in 2001, leaving a legacy of mentorship, excellence, and lifelong friendships.

Bob and Lucille raised their three children in Robbinsdale, where he was devoted to his family and community. He introduced his family to skiing, sailing, and cabin life. He took up running in mid-life, completing a marathon at 40. In retirement, he learned Spanish, became a wine enthusiast, and traveled widely—to Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Africa, and regularly to Canada to visit family. He volunteered faithfully at the Basilica, serving the poor, and mentored many. He cycled extensively—including the 300-mile AIDS Ride to Chicago and numerous international biking trips. The St. Paul Classic Bike Ride became a beloved annual family tradition.

Near retirement, Bob and Lucille moved to downtown Minneapolis, enjoying the arts, restaurants and city life for 18 years. In 2016, they moved to Trillium Woods Senior Living, where Bob lovingly cared for Lucille through her journey with Alzheimer’s, remaining devoted by her side daily after her move to memory care in 2024.

Bob was a lifelong reader, enjoyed jazz music, and loved discussing current events and politics. He deeply loved his family and dear friends and valued charity, education, hard work, and lifelong learning. He stayed closely connected to his Saskatchewan roots and extended family in Canada and was proud of his Scottish heritage. He was an enthusiastic supporter of his kids and his grandchildren in all their endeavors, and had a gift for making each one feel special. He will be forever in our hearts, remembered for his humor, charm, warmth, and generosity.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mysie Ingram, and his sister, Marilyn.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Lucille; children Ron (Brenda), Dee (Paul), and Rich (Martha); grandchildren Ian (Hannah), Noah (Larissa), Mia, Ryan (Alyssa), Brett, Quinn, Jack, and Julia; and his cherished nieces and nephew in Saskatchewan—Cindy (Paul), Vicki (Jim), Patti, and Mitch—as well as many extended relatives and dear friends.
