Robert John "Bob" Kaiser, age 87, of Plymouth, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home on March 6, 2026. Bob courageously faced multiple health challenges in recent years but remained strong and determined until his final weeks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Helen Kaiser, and his son, Michael. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Judy; his son, Dan (Diane); daughters, Mary (Keith) and Debbie (Dave); daughter-in-law, Mary Jo; brother, Curt (Pam); and eight cherished grandchildren.
Bob was born on September 1, 1938, in St. Paul, Minnesota. As the son of a career Army serviceman, he lived in numerous places throughout his childhood, including time in Europe. He attended 16 different schools before graduating from Monroe High School in St. Paul in 1956. He briefly attended the University of Minnesota before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1957, where he was stationed in Germany serving as a code copier in the Army Security Agency.
After his honorable discharge, Bob returned to the University of Minnesota, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1963. During a memorable New Year's Eve trip to California to watch the Gophers play in their first Rose Bowl appearance, Bob met Judy, who shared his life for 62 years.
Bob enjoyed a successful career in management with Northwestern Bell/U.S. West. He and his family moved several times before settling in New Hope for 20 years before his retirement in 1990. In 1994, he and Judy moved to Plymouth.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Bob played football, basketball, softball, and tennis through high school, during his Army service, and recreationally into his 50s. He loved camping trips with family and friends, reading, playing pool, solving crossword puzzles, and singing. He had a special passion for fantasy football, participating in one of the earliest leagues more than 40 years ago and remaining an active participant and sought-after advisor to friends and family.
Music was another great joy in Bob's life. He performed in a high school play, sang during his Army service, and was a member of the University of Minnesota Men's Glee Club. Over the years, he also sang in community and church choirs, and for 21 years was a proud member of the Plymouth Rockers senior choir. Known for his rich contrabass voice, Bob was deeply respected by his fellow singers and formed many lasting friendships.
Bob was also devoted to youth sports in the New Hope community, coaching three different sports for eight years around the New Hope Athletic Association and serving a term as its president. His impact was lasting, and he remained fondly remembered by many former players. He took great pride in his children's accomplishments and found immense joy in his grandchildren. His home was always welcoming to their friends, reflecting his warm and social nature.
Known for his quick wit and easygoing personality, Bob had a way of making people laugh and feel at ease. He treasured time spent with friends, sharing stories and tall tales. His sense of humor, kindness, and genuine interest in others will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, April 6, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Plymouth Creek Center, 14800 34th Avenue North, Plymouth, Minnesota. Private interment will take place at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
