Ronald "Sid" Sandeen, born July 30, 1935 in Geneseo, ND, died December 5, 2016 in New Hope, MN.

Preceded in death by wife Barbara; parents, Florence and Ernest Sandeen; brothers, James

and John Sandeen. Survived by sons, Michael, Christopher (Christy), and Anthony (Hillary);

daughters, Laura Triden (Kevin) and Elizabeth Osborne (John); sister, Geraldine Hawker (Don);

11 wonderful grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Phyllis Raffaelli.

Ron was born in Geneseo, ND and moved to Glenwood, MN at an early age where he grew up

and attended high school. He enrolled at St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN and

graduated in 1957 with a degree in music education. He served two years in the Army as an

officer and military band director at Fort Bliss, TX. Upon returning to MN he met his future wife

Barbara and they married in September 1960. Later he complete a Master’s Degree in Music

Education with an emphasis on providing musical training to deaf students.

Ron was an enthusiastic St. John’s alumnus and represented the class of 1957 as class agent

for 43 years. He carried forward the values and disciplines gained through his Collegeville

experience and maintained many friendships with the St. John’s community. He was a regular

at Johnnie football games rarely missing a game. Go Johnnies!!

Ron had a storied career as a decorated instrumental music director in the Minneapolis Public

Schools, serving 37 years at all district levels. He founded the Tri-City Musicmakers marching

band program at the Academy of Holy Angels, Richfield, MN which he directed for 23 years.

Ron says, “A big thank you to all my former students for fond memories and a job well done!”

Ron loved to travel and spent many summers showing his family the USA by station wagon and

camper trailer. He loved the outdoors and introduced his kids to boating, ice fishing, bear

watching, grouse hunting, and rock picking the shores of Lake Superior. He travelled

extensively internationally with Barbara always making new friends along the way.

Since 1965 Ron has been a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Crystal, MN, serving

as eucharistic minister, lector, and parish music director. He was a member of the Knights of

Columbus #3656 and the Evergreen Club. He was a volunteer at St. Therese Nursing Home

where he contributed fellowship and his musical talent. He and his family wish to thank the staff

at St.Therese’s for their caregiving and kindness as Ron prepared to receive the grace of God.

Ron was an amazing father, grandfather, and best friend. He is loved and will be sorely missed.
