Rosalyn Virginia Bird

May 3, 1921 - March 30, 2023

“I am sufficiently serensified, anything more would be obnoxious to my fastidious palate.”

This quote was one of Rosie’s favorites to express her satisfaction with a wonderful meal or experience. She is reveling in this expression to the utmost now, as she rejoices being reunited in Heaven with her loved ones and being free of her physical constraints on earth. This beautiful and lovely woman was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Her bright light will continue shining from within those of us she has touched throughout her long life.

Rosalyn Virginia Bird passed away peacefully from heart failure the morning of March 30th, 2023, with family at her side. She was 101 years young! The daughter of a Hungarian immigrant mother, Rosalyn was born on May 3rd, 1921 to Karl and Ruth Olson in Minneapolis, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Bird; father, Karl Olson; mother, Ruth Olson; daughter, Kim Anderson; son-in-law, Doug Anderson; sons, Gary and Leon Bird; brother, Carl Olson; and many other family members and friends. She is survived by her children Roxie Uzzell (Jim), Bobby Bird (Vikki), Debi Smith (Jeff), as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

As a child, Rosalyn fell in love with California while attending grade school there in her younger years. Upon returning to Minneapolis, she graduated from St. Anthony High School. Afterwards she worked in clerical and business-related employment. During that time, she met the love of her life, Robert Bird (Robin) in 1940 and married him in 1942. Together they raised 6 children with Rosie mastering the noblest of jobs as family CEO and Chief Homemaker. She was an exceptional role model and inspiration to her children. Her graciousness and kindness made everyone feel welcome.

She loved music, played the guitar, was a very gifted singer and member of the Minneapolis Choir. Mornings at the Bird house would be marked by Bob whistling and her crooning to their favorite radio tunes. She found enjoyment in playing golf, traveling with her bowling league, hanging out with her “lunch bunch”, and most of all spending time with her family and friends. She created beautifully intricate cross-stitch canvasses that adorn many walls. She especially loved traveling with her best buddy Robin, both domestically and abroad. As a devout Catholic, Rosie was a dedicated and active parish member at Sacred Heart Church. Her progressive thinking and her brilliant sense of humor inspired us all until her very last days.

A special thank you to her loving caregivers at St. Therese of New Hope who became Rosie’s extended family in these last years, and warm gratitude to Henry Patton for his invaluable friendship.

The family would also like to thank Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital Hospice for their attention and guidance.

Rest in peace beautiful mama.  We love you.
