Rose Smeltzer

Rose Smeltzer (Damian), age 89 of Minnetonka, MN formerly of Shorewood, MN, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. She will be missed dearly by Virgil, her husband of 67 years; children, David (Rochelle Anderson), Lynne Schiebe (Darrick); grandchildren, Beth Trizna (Zoli), Sarah Smeltzer, Michael Schiebe (Mikey Eljera), Megan Reif (Nick); great-grandchildren, Elaine and Edith Trizna and Elyse Reif. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lucy Damian, and brother, James Jr.

Rose was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1935. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh (“Pitt”) where she met her husband, Virgil, at a sorority/fraternity social dance. Rose taught elementary education for a few years before staying home to raise her two children. She then worked at Wells Fargo (Wayzata Bank & Trust at the time) as a personal banker for 20 years.

Rose and Virgil loved to travel, particularly to Europe (Grand Circle Tours-a highlight), Hawaii, and Florida. For 20 years they would spend one month each year in Fort Walton Beach, FL, or New Smyrna Beach, FL.

She loved to play cards-especially bridge. Rose also loved to read and play Sudoku. But mostly, she cherished her time with family and friends. Rose and Virgil belonged to Wayzata Country Club for 40 years, where they enjoyed playing golf, tennis, socializing, and meeting new friends. Rose was loving, kind and will be very missed.

Many thanks to the care of Amira Choice Minnetonka where she resided her last two years. Also, to the Grace Hospice team for all their care and guidance. The family will gather privately to celebrate Rose’s life. Memorials preferred to Alzheimer's Association or donor’s choice in memory of Rose.
