Ruth Kay Zimmerman

Ruth Kay Zimmerman, age 89, of Maple Grove, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10th, 2026. She was born in Westbrook, Minnesota on September 19, 1936, to Myron Ewald Knudson and Kathryn Irene (Valen) Knudson. She was born and raised in Westbrook, Minnesota.

Ruth attended Augustana College for 2 years and studied business. She worked for many years as an administrative assistant and retired from Hoffman Engineering in Brooklyn Center in 1998. She was married to Dale Allen Zimmerman in 1958, at the Little Brown Church in Iowa. While Dale was in the Army, they lived in El Paso, Texas. They moved to Brooklyn Center, Minnesota in 1963. Ruth and Dale had two children, David and Mark.

In her retirement, Ruth loved to spend time with family. She was proud of her family and was so happy to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth loved to read and volunteered for many years in the library at Hope Lutheran Church. For many years, she loved to go for walks on the walking path behind her home, enjoyed car rides with her sons, and loved nature. She loved cats and enjoyed baking for her family

Ruth is survived by her sons, David (Sheila Holmboe) Zimmerman, Mark (Leanna) Zimmerman; grandchildren, Shaunna (Zimmerman) Bradley (Joshua), Daniel (Allie Falk) Zimmerman, Stephen (Mishele) Holmboe; great-grandchildren, Levi, Harrison, and Olivia Bradley, Hailey and Ella Holmboe; sister, Mona (Larry) Towne; nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathryn and Myron Knudson; and her husband, Dale Zimmerman.

Celebration of life service will be held Thursday, May 14th, 2026, at Hope Lutheran Church, 5200 Emerson Avenue North, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The service is at 11:00 am with a visitation one hour prior to the service and a luncheon to follow the service. Burial will be in Westbrook Cemetery, Westbrook, Minnesota at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 15th, 2026. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel of Robbinsdale, Minnesota.
