Steven G. Pettersen

Steven Gerald Pettersen, Age 69. Born 9/13/1955 went to be with his Savior on 12/5/2024. Survived by his loving wife, Jeanne; children Elise (Clark) Woodward; Erin (Matt) Marquis; Russell (Alexia) Pettersen; Ronald (Lauren) Pettersen; Reid (Jenna) Pettersen; Eva (Dominick) Bouta; Randall Pettersen; Ryan Pettersen; 20 grandchildren; siblings Julie (Tim) Leslie; Paul (Lisa) Pettersen; and many other, much loved relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Marie Joy; and parents Gerald and Monte Pettersen.

Steve enjoyed life through work, play and family from the beginning. Born at Fort Benjamin Harrison Army Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana, Steve grew up in South Minneapolis with his parents and siblings. He played most any park and rec sport and loved every minute at Washburn High School – especially being part of the football team that won the 1972 Minnesota state championship.

After studying at the University of Minnesota and a short stint as a Crystal law enforcement officer, Steve began his 40-year career in labor relations, owning Pettersen and Associates, serving the Minnesota Mechanical Contractors Association (MMCA), and working with building trades unions (plumbing and pipefitting) in the Twin Cities, greater Minnesota, North and South Dakota. He loved his work and those he worked with.

Steve married his high school sweetheart, Jeanne Rivers, whom he showered with affection and phone calls multiple times a day just to hear her voice. Together they used their combined energy and thoughtfulness to raise eight amazing kids; he was honored to be a foster parent to one more wonderful child when it was needed. We are sure that Steve was overjoyed to meet Marie Joy on his heavenly arrival. Twenty grandchildren made his life all the sweeter - no one was more excited to welcome babies into the family. Steve loved his family fiercely and well.

Steve was very fond of music, usually played louder than Jeanne preferred though his kids didn’t mind - CCR, Tom Petty, Steve Miller Band, Third Day and so much more. He rode his Harley Road King Classic a bit fast, appreciated strong coffee (and would make you as many cups as you’d like), took daily walks-n-talks with his wife, was passionate and supportive at all baseball and softball games (he was ALWAYS up for a game of catch), ate lots of kettle fried potato chips and, enjoyed and loved his PEOPLE❤️

Most of all, Steve loved The Lord, who loved Steve enough to die for him. (John 3:16)
